The Noswing NS100E is the next-generation anti-sway sensor designed for overhead and gantry cranes. It continuously measures the hoist rope angle in real time and communicates natively via PROFINET, providing the critical feedback required to actively dampen load sway during travel, lifting, and lowering.
As the successor to the NS100, the NS100E replaces legacy Modbus communication with a modern PROFINET interface and introduces enhanced anti-sway functionality. It is designed for use in ABB ACS880-based crane systems, where rope-angle feedback is utilized by the crane control system to generate motion commands that reduce sway.
What the NS100E Does
Every crane movement creates natural pendulum motion in the load. The NS100E measures this motion directly at the hoist by detecting rope angle in two axes. This feedback allows the control system to calculate optimal acceleration, travel speed, and deceleration ramps that actively counteract sway.
With the updated Noswing anti-sway function blocks, the system now supports four selectable anti-sway modes, enabling flexible behavior depending on operating conditions, load characteristics, and control strategy.
When used correctly, the NS100E enables:

Control System Requirement
The NS100E is a sensor only. It does not perform anti-sway control by itself.
To function as intended, the crane control system must actively use the rope-angle feedback from the NS100E to generate motion commands.
A typical ACS880-based setup includes:
- ABB ACS880 frequency converter(s)
- A crane control system / PLC capable of communicating via PROFINET
- Anti-sway control logic such as:
- Noswing anti-sway function blocks (latest version with extended mode support), or
- Control logic designed for ACS880-based crane drives
- Configuration of the desired anti-sway mode(s) within the control system
Without an appropriate anti-sway control function, the NS100E will only provide raw angle data and no sway reduction will occur.
Communication Interface

- Dynamic motion data for real-time sway control
The NS100E communicates directly over PROFINET, eliminating the need for Modbus communication, gateways, or protocol converters.

The NS100E integrates into ACS880-based crane systems through a PLC or control system that manages communication and motion control.
Typical integration includes:
- PROFINET communication between NS100E and PLC
- PLC or control system interfacing with ACS880 drives
- Control logic where rope-angle feedback is used to generate motion commands
- Drive configuration and commissioning aligned with anti-sway functionality
